Gnocchi Night in Panania: Inside Our Famous Thursday Tradition

If you’ve driven through Panania village on a Thursday evening, you’ve probably noticed Pikkio is busier than usual. There’s a reason for that: Thursday is Gnocchi Night, and it has become one of the most-loved traditions in our little corner of south-west Sydney.

What is Gnocchi Night?

Gnocchi Night is exactly what it sounds like — a celebration of one of Italy’s most comforting dishes. Every Thursday we serve our house-made potato gnocchi with a choice of ten different sauces, from a classic Napoletana to a rich four-cheese, a slow-cooked beef ragù, and a creamy boscaiola with mushrooms.

Soft, pillowy gnocchi is deceptively hard to get right. Too much flour and it turns heavy; too little and it falls apart. We make ours fresh, the traditional way, so every plate has that light, melt-in-the-mouth texture you only get from doing it by hand.

Why do the sauces matter?

Gnocchi is a canvas. The same dumpling can be hearty and warming or fresh and light depending entirely on what it’s dressed with. That’s why we offer ten — so whether you’re after something rich for a cold Panania winter night or something lighter in summer, there’s a version for you.

Should you book?
