What Makes Authentic Tiramisù — And Our Limoncello Twist
27 May 2026
Ask anyone what their favourite Italian dessert is and there’s a good chance they’ll say tiramisù. It’s deceptively simple — just a handful of ingredients — which is exactly why it’s so easy to get wrong, and so memorable when it’s done right.
The anatomy of a proper tiramisù
Traditional tiramisù has very few components, and each one matters:
- Savoiardi (lady fingers) soaked — not drowned — in good espresso
- Mascarpone, whipped with egg and sugar until light and silky
- A dusting of cocoa on top
- Time to rest, so the flavours come together
The most common mistakes? Soggy biscuits, heavy cream that’s been over-worked, and serving it too soon. Authentic tiramisù should be light, balanced, and just sweet enough.
Our Limoncello twist
At Pikkio we make our tiramisù fresh every single day — and we add our own signature touch with a little Limoncello, the bright lemon liqueur from southern Italy. It cuts through the richness of the mascarpone and adds a fresh, citrusy lift you don’t expect from a classic tiramisù.
It has quietly become the dish our regulars save room for, and one of the most-mentioned items in our reviews.
Try it for yourself
Our Limoncello tiramisù is on the menu every night, and it’s also available with delivery and takeaway. Come and finish your dinner the way it’s meant to end.
