Our story
A Panania institution, built on family
Real Italian hospitality, two decades in the making.
From the CBD to Italy — and home to Panania
Pikkio began with a simple belief shared by two families: that a restaurant should be “a place where people can meet, relax and grow their relationships.”
Our founders, Sam and Daniel, first worked together running a busy café in Sydney's CBD. Daniel then followed his passion to Ascoli Piceno, in central Italy, where he spent nine years managing a restaurant built on fresh, local cooking and genuine hospitality.
When Daniel and his wife returned to Sydney, the two families reunited with one shared dream — to bring authentic, regional Italian food to their own neighbourhood. Pikkio opened in the heart of Panania village, and it's been feeding locals ever since.
Northern comfort, Southern sunshine
Our kitchen draws from both ends of Italy — the hearty, mountain comfort food of the North and the bright, coastal flavours of the South. The result is a menu that's both familiar and a little different from your usual local Italian.
Our manager, Daniel Mari, brings the Romano-style pizza tradition of his hometown to every base — light, well-charred and made to order. Before Pikkio he honed his craft at GPO Pizza by Wood in the city.
Pasta and gnocchi are made in-house, the tiramisù is made daily, and the welcome is the same whether it's your first visit or your hundredth.
